Rommek is the distinguished alias of one Romek Boyer, a DJ and producer based in London with releases on labels such as Sonntag Morgen and Blueprint Records.

His Debut EP, ‘Thought Patterns’, was released on London’s ‘Weekend Circuit‘ imprint back in 2014, firmly establishing him within the global techno community as a technically skilled artist capable of combining a hypnotic blend of richly textured atmospheres, mysterious metallic percussion and deeply entrenching low end soundscapes.

In 2016 Rommek was welcomed onto the artist roster of iconic record label – Blueprint Records, with the launch of the EP ‘Moth Hole’. His next contribution for the label came in the form of a track entitled ‘Off the Radar’ which was released on a special compilation album called: ‘1996-2016: Structures and Solutions’. This compilation, celebrating 20 years of operation since Blueprint was founded, contains a collection of 17 tracks by producers James Ruskin, Blawan, Regis, Planetary Assault Systems, Randomer, Oliver Ho and several others. As Rommek’s artistry quickly rose in prominence and his works on Blueprint began to receive positive acclaim from a range of international artists, he was gaining a solid standing within the label’s family.

Shifting towards new experimental territory one year later, with the 2017 solo release of ‘Arcane’, Rommek produced an EP that showcased his ability to push and expand the limits of his musical creativity by exploring a fresh range of soundscapes, whilst maintaining an interesting digression from his previous works.

His production style covers a vast landscape of deep and hypnotic club tracks, containing recursive melodies, spacey stabs and thudding visceral kick drums contrasted against his newer, thicker sound which features textured drones, rhythmic high frequencies and tight atmosphere. Rommek’s production style has always been incredibly tight, clean, and controlled – and this shows from his earlier contributions such as his ‘Mariana Trench’ EP from 2014 right through to his recent releases, such as his contribution to Sonntag Morgan‘s release; ‘SM009V – Reissue Pt. 1‘ – with metallic noise-based percussive flourishes and gritty swinging high hat rhythms pulling every layer together, Rommek creates an inclusive and ever evolving listening experience.

Whilst his DJ style is somewhat reflective of his production style; Rommek’s mixes usually delve further into the deeper and darker elements of techno. His sets traverse their way through raw ambient droning soundscapes, and throughout his sets Rommek utilizes his years of sound design knowledge and an intelligent approach to mix programming in order to create a smooth and unrelenting flow of audio. With a wide range of nightclubs and venues under his belt, spanning most of Europe, Rommek has played DJ sets in Germany, Ireland, Poland, Italy, France, Macedonia and England. Past DJ sets have taken place at the likes of: Corsica Studios, Les Caves Le Chapelais, Affekt Club, Griessmuehle, Projekt LAB, Texture, Club Kapan An, Das Lokal, Tresor Nightclub, and Electrowerkz – to name just a few.

Future releases on the horizon for Rommek will include tracks from compilations for both the London-based ‘Tales Collective’, as well as the Amsterdam-based ‘Leyla Records’. Additionally, there is another 12” vinyl release due soon on Methodical Records – consisting of works by Rommek and Forward Strategy Group. Dropping later in the year will be his biggest release to date: the ‘Set in Stone’ trilogy on Blueprint Records. The trilogy is comprised of three 12” EP’s, all spaced 1 month apart, each containing 8 original tracks and will be followed by 4 remixes from other artists on the label. Rommek also has a number of remixes for Concept of Thrill, Busz, Bylly, Brain Rays & Neil Landstrum that are scheduled throughout the year.

Appearing on our first ever 12” vinyl release that lands 2nd of March 2018, ABYSS 001 – Envisioned Disorder, features ‘Surrender Yourself’ – Rommek’s incredible contribution to the start of our vinyl catalog. Months and months of enthusiastic dedication have gone into this project and we intend for it to be the first of many physical releases yet to come. As such, we’ve put together a serious delivery of top-shelf techno from not only Rommek, but also from artists Yuji Kondo, Snitch, and Michal Jablonski. Each copy of ABYSS 001 contains a 12” x 12” square card insert, as well as a custom download card (for digital download) to incorporate with the release’s distinct earthy and abstract aesthetic.

Many exciting plans and projects lay ahead of Rommek for the year of 2018 including his debut performance in America as part of a wider tour, in addition to gigs in Sofia, Poland, Athens, and Manchester. Sometime during the course of the year he aims to release original compositions under the new project alias of ‘Torn Relics’ – a collaborative studio effort between both himself and his girlfriend Aimee – which the pair have been developing over recent months.

You can listen to more from Rommek in our third episode of ‘ABYSS Presents’, ABYSS Presents | Rommek [AP003] which is available now via Soundcloud. You can also preorder Rommek’s contribution to our vinyl release, featured on ‘ABYSS 001 – Envisioned Disorderhere.
