ANTHRO

Jack Vanstone

Based out of Amsterdam, Netherlands, Anthro is the raw alias of Bas Baarda, a DJ and producer with recent releases on Genesa and PLS U.K.

His performances vary from DJ sets to live sets and often feature a mesmerising blend of both, merging the driven club tracks that feature heavily in his DJ sets with spontaneous live bursts of creative improvisation to create unrivalled hybrid productions.

Notable releases for Anthro include his recent 12″ release on Genesa (Scalameriya’s record label) named “Haute Precision”, which is composed of 4 original productions, “Haute Precision”, “Shebang”, “QPO” and “False Materialism”. In addition to his works on Genesa he has contributed towards a dance floor destroying Various Artists EP on PLS.UK entitled “PLS.UK V/A01” with his track “Karin” which, like many of his productions, showcases powerful drums with signature Anthro melodics.

Extending his current involvement with PLS.UK, Anthro is in the process of working on a full EP for release on 12″ which will be landing later in 2018. In the mean time he has several other releases in the pipeline including his contribution to Black Carpet‘s next Various Artists EP as well as a remix on Sticky Ground before returning to Black Carpet for a full artist EP.

Anthro creates a sound that balances interesting melodies with crisp and rhythmic textures whilst featuring rough and dry percussion with moments of distorted creative flair throughout his productions. As a versatile producer with a defined sound palette, Anthro manages to strike an equilibrium between two worlds that is unique from other producers, delivering industrial swing and raw power infused with rhythm and funk, his tracks frequently smash the dance floors of clubs across the world.

Events are always around the corner for Anthro, having played at several high profile venues for a number of event organisers, collectives and labels including T/W/B, Jaded, Obscuur, Undergut and many more at venues stretching across the UK, France, Germany, most of central Europe and as far afield as Lebanon in the Middle East.

2017 also included Quasar at Ninkasi Kao, where he played alongside established industry veteran Dax J and was supported by Angel Karel in Lyon, FR. Following this form, his 2018 is just as busy as last year, with upcoming events in April starting with KIK ASS at Glazart (Paris, FR) with Process 404 and AG799 as well as Jaded‘s party with Sticky Ground on April 22nd 2018.

There are many reasons to admire Anthro’s works, from his blend of DJ, Live and hybrid sets through to his unique sound and production style, so keep your eyes on his movements in 2018 and catch him at several venues across Europe throughout the year.
